James L. Shireman Civics Scholarship

Shireman Construction and the Harrison County Republican Party are proud to announce the 5th annual James L. Shireman Civics Scholarship. The $500 competitive scholarship is open to high school seniors living in Harrison County. Scholarship applications are centered around a letter addressed to the speaker of the Lincoln Day Dinner, the annual gathering of the Harrison County Republican Party.

The speaker at this year’s Lincoln Day Dinner will be U.S. Congressman Trey Hollingsworth. Acceptable topics for the letter include issues presently facing Federal government, issues before Congress, or an issue the student believes should be addressed by the Congressman.

The deadline for scholarship applications is Wednesday, April 6 at 5:00 p.m. The winner will be chosen by a committee, and will be given two complimentary tickets to attend the annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Tuesday, April 12, where Congressman Hollingsworth will present the $500 scholarship to the winner.

The scholarship is named in honor of James L. Shireman, the founder of Shireman Construction, Marine Corps veteran and former chairman of the Harrison County Republican Party. Jim Shireman had a deep commitment to the future of our country and the engagement of citizens in our government. This scholarship continues his proud legacy of civic and community involvement.

Applications for the scholarship are being distributed to high schools in the county and are also available online by clicking here.
